In March 2020 118 118 Money experienced a cyberattack in which customer call recordings were targeted. This potentially compromised the audio files of the calls in which sensitive personal information could have been discussed. The details revealed in the phone calls would have included customer data such as names, addresses, dates of birth, and anything else that was discussed in the calls.
The exposing of such information poses risks to both personal loan and credit card customers who could potentially be targeted by criminals. They could attempt to use the information from the calls for fraudulent activity, and there is the real risk they may even attempt to pose as 118 118 Money customer service representatives using the exposed information in order to get people to hand over access to accounts or even hand over money.
If you are one of the many customers affected by the 118 118 Money data breach you can make a claim for data protection breach compensation. Unlike other data breach claims where there is often a significant delay between a breach being discovered and those affected being informed, in this instance customers were notified within 3 days. Nonetheless, there is still a significant risk posed by the breach, and this is why those who were notified of being involved have reason to need to be extra vigilant and could make a 118 118 Money data breach compensation claim.
Compensation is payable, not only for any specific financial or other losses you have incurred, but also for any distress caused by the data breach which could have left you open to the risk of fraudulent activity.

Data breach experts
We use dedicated data breach solicitors who have handled thousands of data breach claims
Bringing a data breach claim not only gets you access to compensation, but also holds a company or organisation to account for their actions. As a result, this will usually prompt them to take the necessary steps to boost their data security measures to ensure that such a breach cannot occur again.
Data regulations mean that you have a right to compensation for non-material damage. This means those affected are entitled to compensation for the stress, frustration, and anxiety associated with the breach.
The unauthorised access to 118 118 Money’s network during the March 2020 cyber attack was reported to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) who will carry out their own investigation, and depending on their findings and the extent to which more could have been done to prevent the incident, could fine the company. Any compensation would be independent of the fine although a significant fine would reflect the seriousness of the data breach and would support the case for compensation.
We can put you in touch with legal experts who are putting together a group claim whereby the large number of customers can be part of a collective claim for 118 118 Money data breach compensation. Even if the breach has not led to any direct financial losses to you, you are still entitled to claim compensation for distress caused by the data breach.
Our recommended experts will act for you on a No Win, No Fee basis, meaning there is no risk to you in making a claim and nothing to pay in the unlikely event we take on your claim and you don’t win compensation.
