In 2021, financial institution DivideBuy revealed it had suffered a cyber-attack which exposed the personal data of its customers. It sent an email to affected customers confirming that the criminals behind the attack might have access various pieces of sensitive information, including:
DivideBuy stated explicitly that the compromised data in the breach did not include any bank account or credit card information.
If you have been contacted by DivideBuy informing you that your data was part of the breach, or you have a strong reason to believe that your data has been affected, you might be able to make a claim for compensation. The company did send out an email to customers whose data was involved in the breach, so if you have had this communication you can start your claim.
Even though no financial information was revealed in this breach, victims can still claim compensation for any emotional distress they may have experienced as a result of the breach. Anyone who has had their data stolen in a breach should be aware of the risk of their data being used maliciously or fraudulently by hackers. There are steps you can take to reduce these risks as much as possible and to effectively protect yourself if you are targeted by criminals.
If you are a DivideBuy customer, you should be extra vigilant of any emails, phone calls, or communication from anyone who claims to represent the company. These could be ‘phishing’ attack attempts which aim to get further details from you than what was taken in the breach, such as your credit card information in order to commit further fraud.
