In December 2021, convenience food manufacturer Greencore started to experience some IT disruption. Upon looking into the incident, they discovered it was in fact a cyberattack. To deal with the problem, the company had to shut down some of its systems. Greencore investigated the attack and found that some HR data had been accessed.
It wasn’t until February 2022 that Greencore wrote to employees to inform them that their personal details may have been exposed. The stolen information related to both current and former employees of Greencore and included:
This is a lot of personal details and the financial information exposed is particularly sensitive and valuable to cybercriminals. The situation was made worse by the delay in victims being notified as they would not have had the chance to protect themselves and their data between the time of the breach happening and the time they were eventually informed.
If you have been notified by the company that your data was compromised during the attack, or you strongly suspect this is the case, you could be eligible to make a claim for Greencore data breach compensation. Even though they were late in doing so, the company did send out communication to inform those whose data was affected, so if you received this you can start your claim.
Despite Greencore’s claim that there is no evidence suggesting that the affected data has been misused by the cybercriminals, there is no way to be completely certain that is the case or won’t continue to be the case going forward. The personal and financial data that was accessed could not only result in some financial losses for the individuals involved but also a lot of stress and concern and how their data could be used and the uncertainty of potentially fraudulent activity like phishing attacks.
We can put you in touch with experienced data breach solicitors that are starting a collective group claim which will bring together a significant number of employees and former employees. If you are an employee or former employee of Greencore and you have received notification about your involvement in the incident, you are eligible to join the group claim.

Starting a data breach claim will not only mean you will be able to access the compensation you deserve, but also it holds Greencore accountable for its actions. As a result, it will hopefully encourage them to take the necessary steps to improve their data protection and security measures so nothing like this happens again in the future.
There was a substantial amount of information breached in this incident and with enough personal data cybercriminals could commit further fraud. This includes applying for credit in your name, setting up fraudulent bank accounts, and accessing your existing accounts. If you are a Greencore employee or former employee you should be especially vigilant of any emails, phone calls, or communication from anyone that claims to represent the company or other companies you have shared data with.
If your data was accessed during this attack it could be shared and sold online through the dark web. Whilst Greencore told its employees that “the manner in which the data was stored means that it is not easy for someone to access and/or read” that does not necessarily mean it won’t be used by criminals, or that they can’t find a way to convert into a readable format.
Greencore stated that it is “confident that none of your information has been shared online or otherwise misused following the incident and we also believe that the risks of this happening at any time are minimal”, it cannot fully guarantee the safety of the data to employees. Similar breaches to this have led to fraud, blackmail, and identity theft, so affected employees are at a high risk of being targeted by cybercriminals.
We can put you in touch with legal experts who are putting together a group claim whereby the thousands of employees can be part of a collective claim for Greencore data breach compensation. Even if the breach has not led to any direct financial losses to you, you are still entitled to claim compensation for distress caused by the Greencore data breach.
