In November 2019 customers were notified of a data breach at mobile phone company OnePlus. No specific details were provided by OnePlus other than it appears that the breach took place through its online store rather than its smartphones. The information accessed by hackers was of the nature that it could be used for fraudulent purposes and included:
OnePlus said it discovered the hack while monitoring its systems, with their security team discovering that some of the users’ order information had been accessed by the unauthorised third party. Despite the company saying it “took immediate steps to stop the intruder and reinforce security, making sure there are no similar vulnerabilities”, it did not disclose the latest incident for more than a week. This delay could be seen as unacceptable, given that customers were potentially left exposed for this period by some of their order information being accessed by the hackers.

If you are one of those affected by the OnePlus data breach then you would have been informed via an email from OnePlus sent on 22 November 2019. If you didn’t receive a notification email then it is most likely that you were not one of those affected. The Chinese company has not confirmed how many customers were impacted.
We can put you in touch with expert data breach solicitors who are putting together a collective group claim that will bring together the large number of OnePlus customers. If you are a OnePlus customer and received notification about involvement in the data breach, you are eligible to join our group claim.
Compensation is payable for any distress caused by the data breach which could have left you open to the risk of fraudulent activity.
This is not the first time OnePlus has experienced a security breach, with up to 40,000 people affected by credit card information being stolen in 2018. Hundreds of customers reported fraud on their accounts after paying over the OnePlus website.

Customers have the right to expect that any personal or financial data that they have shared with an organisation, such as OnePlus, is securely stored and handled. When data protection standards have fallen short, and in this case a hack has enabled unauthorised access to your personal data, you can make a OnePlus data breach claim for compensation.
Data regulations mean that you have a right to compensation for non-material damage. This means those affected are entitled to compensation for the stress, frustration, and anxiety associated with the breach.
The company has said that following the latest OnePlus data leak they have subsequently upgraded their security and partnered with a world-renowned security platform to prevent such instances happening again. However, these security improvements are too little too late for the customers whose data was exposed by the hack and who have the right to claim compensation, both for distress and any financial loss.
If you think you may have a valid OnePlus data breach claim then get in touch with us and we will put you in touch with data breach experts who will make enquiries regarding your claim and confirm whether or not you have a case worth pursuing.
We can put you in touch with legal experts who are putting together a group claim whereby the thousands of customers can be part of a collective claim for OnePlus data breach compensation. Even if the breach has not led to any direct financial losses to you, you are still entitled to claim compensation for distress caused by the OnePlus data breach.
