On 16th December 2020 People’s Energy discovered that an unauthorised third party had managed to access one of the system’s used to some of their member’s data. They have stated that as soon as they became aware of the breach they acted quickly to close down the route the hackers were using to get into the system and to stop them accessing any further information. All 270,000 members had certain information accessed. This included:
People’s Energy has said that account passwords were not affected during the hack and remain secure. For a small number of members some partial financial data was compromised but those people have been contacted by People’s Energy.
If you are one of the 270,000 members who have been affected by the People’s Energy data breach then you are entitled to make a claim for compensation. Anyone whose personal data was part of the hack will have been notified by People’s Energy.
We can put you in touch with expert data breach solicitors who are putting together a collective group claim that will bring together the large number of People’s Energy members. If you are a People’s Energy member and received notification about involvement in the data breach, you are eligible to join our group claim.
Even though in the majority of cases no financial information was disclosed compensation is still payable for any distress you may have experienced as a result of the data breach. The personal data that was accessed could lead to other fraudulent activity like phishing attacks and those that were affected might have suffered some anxiety about that. Also, for those who did have some financial information compromised there is further risk.
