Date the breach occured
In March 2019, a data breach occurred that affected hundreds of former employees of TeamSport by accidentally releasing their personal and financial details to an individual. The type of information released during the breach included:
If these details ended up in the wrong hands it could result in fraudulent activity for the former employees. While TeamSport have said that the error was spotted “very promptly” and “that the recipient of the file immediately and permanently deleted it and did not disclose it to any other party”, there is nonetheless a degree of anxiety and distress that results from a breach in such circumstances. TeamSport Indoor Karting may have claimed that the risk to former employees was negligible, but the fact that there was a data breach at all is grounds for making a compensation claim.
If you are one of the former employees of TeamSport who have been affected by the data breach then you are entitled to make a claim for compensation. Former employees impacted by the TeamSport data breach will have received a written notification from the company informing them that they were one of those whose personal details were included in the breach. While the company attempted to reassure the former employees that the risk to them was negligible, those affected cannot always be certain, and the full implications and losses of such a breach often do not become apparent for several months.
Compensation is payable, not only for any specific financial or other losses you have incurred, but also for any distress caused by the data breach which could have left you open to the risk of fraudulent activity.

Data breach experts
We use dedicated data breach solicitors who have handled thousands of data breach claims
Employees have the right to expect that any personal or financial data that they have shared with an organisation, such as TeamSport, is securely stored and handled. When data protection standards have fallen short, and in this case a hack has enabled unauthorised access to your personal data, you can make a claim for compensation.
In this case TeamSport admitted in their letter to former employees that they had not kept the data as safe as they would have expected. They also informed the ICO about the incident as soon as it was discovered, as is required by regulation. We would expect that this admission and the results of any subsequent investigation would support the chance of making a successful group compensation claim.
If you think you may have a valid TeamSport data breach claim then get in touch with us and we will put you in touch with data breach experts who will make enquiries for you and confirm whether or not you have a valid claim worth pursuing.
Our recommended experts will act for you on a No Win, No Fee basis, meaning there is no risk to you in making a claim and nothing to pay in the unlikely event we take on your claim and you don’t win compensation. We can help you receive the maximum amount of compensation for your TeamSport data breach claim, so if you’ve received notification of a data breach, or think that your personal data may have been part of the breach, be sure to start a claim with us.
