Between 25-26 October 2021, Vision Direct experienced an external attack by hackers in which the financial details of some of their customers ordering on their website were compromised. The data was accessed when the customers were entering the data on the website and not from the Vision Direct database.
The stolen data included credit or debit card numbers, expiry dates, and CVV’s. Other personal information like names, addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses were not involved in the hack. Vision Direct reported the attack as legally required and took steps with the data protection and enforcement authorities to investigate how the theft occurred.
If you are one of the customers whose financial details were compromised in the attack you could be eligible to make a claim for compensation. Vision Direct have said they notified all customers who have been confirmed as part of the breach to notify them, provide regular updates on what steps are being taken and to apologise for the inconvenience caused. Vision Direct says that if you paid with the following payment methods your data could be at risk from the breach.
Customers who were using PayPal during this time will not have been affected during the attack.
We can put you in contact with expert data breach solicitors who are starting a collective group claim that will bring together the Vision Direct customers that have been affected by this breach. If you are a Vision Direct customer and you received notification by email about your involvement, you are entitled to join the claim.
This is a serious breach of privacy, and many customers would likely feel distressed and worried about their financial details being exposed in this way. They could be left vulnerable to phishing attacks and the hackers could attempt to get the other pieces of information they would need to access the victims’ bank accounts to potentially set up fraudulent bank accounts, take credit out in their name and more.
