Leading game developer Zynga who first came onto the scene with popular online game Farmville experienced a data breach in the summer of 2019. During this breach nearly 173 million email addresses, usernames and passwords were compromised. Zynga acknowledged the breach at the end of September, several weeks after the hackers attacked. They said “cyber-attacks are one of the unfortunate realities of doing business today. We recently discovered that certain player account information may have been illegally accessed by outside hackers”.
Zynga also urged users not to share passwords across multiple accounts, and ensure they create a “unique and strong” credential for all of their online accounts.

If you are one of the 173 million people whose personal details were affected during the hack you are eligible to make a claim for data breach compensation.
We can put you in touch with expert data breach solicitors who are putting together a collective group claim that will bring together the large number of Zynga users. If you are a Zynga user and received notification about involvement in the data breach, you are eligible to join our group claim.
Even though no financial information was disclosed compensation is still payable for any distress you may have experienced as a result of the data breach. The personal data that was accessed could lead to other fraudulent activity like phishing attacks or the data being sold on the dark web and those that were impacted might have suffered some anxiety about that.

Bringing a data breach claim not only gets you access to compensation, but also holds a company or organisation to account for their actions. As a result, this will usually prompt them to take the necessary steps to boost their data security measures.
With enough information, cyber criminals could apply for credit in your name, set up fraudulent bank accounts and access your existing accounts. Even though bank details and home addresses were not exposed in this case, there is still a lot of information that can be collected from an email account. There are signs you can look out for which suggest your data has been stolen, these include:
Bills or emails showing goods or services that you haven’t purchased
Unfamiliar transactions or suspicious activity on your account
An unexpected dip in your credit score
Unsolicited communications that ask for your personal data or refer you to a web page asking for personal data
To protect yourself and your data from cybercriminals it is important to follow the guidance provided by Zynga if you think your information has been breached. In particular, change your password and avoid clicking on links or downloading attachments from suspicious emails.
Our recommended experts will act for you on a No Win, No Fee basis, meaning there is no risk to you in making a claim and nothing to pay in the unlikely event we take on your claim and you don’t win compensation. We can help you receive the maximum amount of compensation for your Zynga data breach claim, so if you’ve received notification about the data breach, or think that your personal data may have been part of the breach, be sure to start a claim with us today.
